NAND Flash

Definition

NAND flash is the non-volatile memory technology used in solid-state drives. NAND stores data in cells organized into pages (4-16 KB) and blocks (256+ pages). Data is read and written at the page level but erased at the block level, creating the write amplification challenge. Modern 3D NAND stacks 100-200+ layers vertically to increase density. Cell types include SLC (1 bit), MLC (2 bits), TLC (3 bits), and QLC (4 bits).
