Tiered Storage

Definition

Tiered storage is a data management strategy that automatically moves data between different storage classes based on access patterns and policies. Hot data resides on fast NVMe/SSD tiers for active workloads, warm data moves to capacity SSD or HDD tiers, and cold data migrates to archive storage (tape, glacier, deep archive). Automated tiering policies optimize the balance between performance and cost across the data lifecycle.
